H8: The DMZ, a burning field.

......I searched my albums to find some pictures with beautiful backgrounds enable to post on my blog. At last, I found a picture of a long time ago of a special background. Look at the background of the picture, a burning field, the place is called the DMZ: De-Militarized Zone. The DMZ is an area which devides the Notrh from the South and has designated as a non-arming area after the Korean War. It is 248 km long from the west to the east end and 4 km wide, 2 km wide on each sides. Iron fences were installed 4 km away from the North side and the whole area is called the DMZ. Every year in the spring, the DMZ has an annual event called "Fire Operation", which is setting fire to the DMZ area beginning at the south and the North at the same time. The reason is to keep the area clear for observation as a tactical purpose and to prevent invasion. The DMZ area is a wild life zone because peoples are not permitted to enter. Once fire operation starts, it burns about a week and animals are visible jumping in the fire. Also, explosive sounds of mines can be heard which was installed during the Korean War. The time and the place at the DMZ’s “Burning Field” was special to me and it was one of the most unforgetable moments in my life.

  2. There it is!! From the picture, it looks like a very dangerous place with the fires in the background. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that the fires were a result of combat. Anyhow, great paragraph! It was interesting.
